PrevNext

"These beautiful specimens have been sanded and polished, not to alter the stones in any way, but to enhance the beauty of the crystals. These specimens are not gem quality as far as being able to facet the stones, but, they would make great looking cabochons and set in jewelry. The word "GARNET" refers to a group of very closely related aluminum silicates and calcium silicates. The aluminum silicates includes the Pyrope, Almandine, and Spessartine. The calcium silicates include Grossular, Andradite, and Uvarovite. Hardness 6-1/2 to 7-1/2. Some garnets are of igneous origin, but most of them are products of metamorphism. Garnets are used as gemstones and as an abrasive used in grinding and polishing because of its hardness. Isometric crystal system."
